About Cyprus
Playground of the Gods

Cyprus is now one of the more sophisticated islands in the Mediterranean, attracting tourists who come not only for the sunshine but also to see its many historic sights. Paphos has long been known as 'The Playground of the Gods', with visitors returning to the island time and time again, making this one of the most popular revisited destinations in Europe.
In roman times Paphos was the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite Goddess and along with a number of archaeological sites, Kato Paphos is where most tourists spend their holiday capturing the quintessential charm of the island and its locals. Nearby historical sights include Tombs of The Kings, House of Dionysus, Byzantine Castle and Aphrodite's rock (Petra tou Romiou), where according to legend, Aphrodite emerged from the foam.
The picturesque harbour was once known as Nea Paphos (new) and in more recent times, known today as Kato Paphos (lower), which helps tell apart Ktima, the older city of Paphos, situated above the harbour and 19km to the east. As you walk along the narrow streets of old Paphos and around its small markets, you get a real feel for traditional Cypriot life. Often, women dress all in black, selling home-grown fruit or vegetables through to filigree silver, lace, leather, rugs, basketwork and terra cotta.

Vineyards, banana, and orange plantations fill a rich, rugged countryside with a feeling of unspoilt tradition and hard work appealing to all senses. Peyia, a short 10-15 minute drive away is probably one fine example of this, and as you drive down the steep windy roads, the view over Coral Bay is remarkable. Some of the islands best sandy beaches are also said to be here. International in cuisine, Cyprus is proud of its own mouth watering dishes, which combine sweets and pastries, and locally grown fruits and olives. Tavernas and restaurants serve fresh fish and typical Cypriot dishes such as Kebabs, mousaka, souvla and kleftiko. Vineyards are also welcoming if you wish to sample local wines on offer.
Paphos is appealing to both the young and old, which is understandable because the weather is fantastic, scenery stunning and Cypriots truly welcoming. There are some glorious sun-soaked beaches, an excellent nightlife, and the Cypriots even drive on the left and most speak English.
So whether you visit year after, or simply want a new adventure filled with fun, excitement or relaxation, sun-drenched Cyprus is just for you!
